Volunteers add downtown parking, library programs and Master Gardener garden expand community offerings in Loomis

The Loomis Town Council recognized four local volunteers and two businesses for donating time, equipment and materials to clear and prepare the former WW Molding site for new downtown parking. Council presented framed certificates of appreciation and several volunteers described providing equipment, excavators and labor without regard to politics or affiliation.
Library and community updates: The Loomis Library reported upcoming events including a final spring Japanese story time, a genetic genealogy class (May 15), a book discussion tied to a "Still Standing Guard" presentation (May 29 at the Blue Goose) and a summer series featuring Station 18 fire-truck story times. The library said some special programs will include a Mini Matsuri festival and summer-reading kickoff on June 14.
UC Master Gardeners: Sandy Fitzpatrick and Karen Lopez reported on the demonstration garden's first-year success, fundraising and events. The garden logged nearly 3,800 visitors in the fiscal year-to-date, hosted 200 youth participants and recorded more than 2,000 volunteer hours; UC Davis recognized the garden and county program with a filmed segment and local volunteer awards. The group said it plans an open house and a shade-structure fundraising target, and encouraged council and public participation at upcoming events.
