Jefferson County Register of Deeds Stacy Hoffman told the county board the Register of Deeds office generated revenue in excess of its operating costs last year and described ongoing digitization and customer-service work that the office performs for residents, veterans and genealogists.
Hoffman read a short, human-interest-style example that she said she produced using an AI tool and used it to illustrate how the office helps residents navigate title problems, secure documents and access records. She described a recent case in which staff located an original deed in the archives and guided a resident through affidavits and recordings to correct title issues.
Hoffman also said staff routinely assist residents who are in distress and that the office has intervened to ensure a caller's immediate safety when needed. She named staff members who work with her and thanked the county board for its support.
"We maintain not only the history of every land transaction, but the history of our citizens as well," Hoffman said, adding the office is working to digitize historical records and make online access easier for attorneys, surveyors, title companies and members of the public.
She closed by offering to answer questions and encouraging supervisors to contact the office for services such as Real ID support, record searches or document recordings.
