The City Council authorized a joint professional-services agreement with Parkhill and the city of Waxahachie to design a new fuel farm at Midway Regional Airport. The design contract, in the amount of $144,652, covers civil, electrical and equipment specifications for a new Avgas storage and dispensing system and an alternate for Jet-A fuel; the project is expected to be funded 90% by FAA/Texas grant assistance with a 10% local match.
Staff said the existing fuel system is outdated and that a new facility with 12,000–15,000-gallon tanks (Avgas and an optional Jet-A alternative) and modern dispensing equipment would improve reliability and encourage transient aircraft to fuel at Midway. The design scope includes demolition of the existing farm, geometry and site grading, foundations, electrical layout, SWPPP and erosion control, and performance specifications for a factory-assembled fuel system with pumps, filtration, meters and hoses.
Council approved the agreement, and staff said the design and bidding process will follow. The airport director and staff said the facility will make fueling more reliable and better positioned to attract transient traffic and support airport operations.
Why it matters: Allowing Avgas self-service and a modern fuel farm improves the airport’s reliability and economic potential, while the FAA/TxDOT grant covers the majority of the design and construction costs.
