Woburn names longtime assistant principal Tom Mills interim principal at Joyce Middle School

WOBURN — The Woburn School Committee on May 20 publicly introduced Tom Mills as the interim principal of Joyce Middle School for this school year and the next.
Superintendent Michael Crowley said Mills has been with Woburn Public Schools since 2002, served as a math teacher and as assistant principal at Joyce since 2015, and has agreed to lead the school during the transition. "He knows the kids. He knows the schedule, and it's a great pleasure to introduce you to the school committee tonight publicly," Crowley said.
Mills addressed the committee, calling the appointment an honor and stressing priorities of academic excellence, student well-being and partnerships with families. "I am committed to building on the strong foundation we've established together," Mills said.
Committee members praised Mills’ experience and relationships with students. "A transition like this toward the end of the school year is not an easy thing," School Committee member Andrew Lipsett said. Committee members also thanked outgoing administrators who continue to assist Mills during the transition.
No formal vote was recorded; the introduction served as a public announcement of the interim appointment. The committee asked Mills to bring any needs to the board and offered support as he assumes the role.
