Summary
Wake County Schools security staff said on May 13 that a biannual School Resource Officer evaluation will now include a live, public feedback form accessible by QR code and the district website. The form is monitored by the Office of Security and will be incorporated into six-month SRO evaluations.
Mister Cortez, director of special operations at Wake County Schools, told the Committee on Safety and Security on May 13 that the district has implemented a live, public feedback form for the School Resource Officer (SRO) program.
The district said the form, available via QR code and the districts public website, supplements the existing semester survey provided to school administrators and assigned SROs. Responses can be submitted at any time and are monitored live by the Office of Security. The district plans to fold submissions into the full SRO evaluation every six months.
Why it matters: Board members had previously requested greater qualitative feedback on SROs from students and families; staff said the new tool was created in response and is intended to capture a broader set of perspectives beyond administrator reports.
Cortez described the form as an addition to the existing memorandum of understanding evaluation and said it is available only to participating schools โ those with permanently assigned or regularly assisting SROs. He told the committee the form has already received submissions from staff, students and family members and that the responses have been largely positive.
Board discussion focused on access and frequency. Chair asked whether the form would replace semester reviews; Cortez said no, the live form supplements semester and six-month reviews and will provide qualitative depth to quantitative surveys.
Staff noted flyers and QR codes will be posted on campuses and that principals were encouraged to make the form available across school buildings. No policy changes were proposed at the meeting; staff said the feedback will inform future evaluations and possible program adjustments.
Details: The feedback mechanism is active districtwide for participating schools and will be included in full evaluations every six months.
