Board accepts draft strategic plan for final review; schedules July retreat

The McPherson USD Board of Education voted to accept the district’s draft strategic plan at its May meeting and directed staff to continue revisions before a formal vote next month.
Superintendent Shiloh said the draft was being presented "for acceptance, which means it'll be for formal approval at the June meeting," and asked board members to review the document and submit corrections or missing items. The superintendent said the district will build an implementation timeline and share iterations in weekly reports.
Board members discussed mechanisms for tracking progress, including scheduling updates in strategic intervals tied to assessment windows. A board member asked whether acceptance tonight signaled readiness to move to a final vote; Shiloh confirmed acceptance at this meeting would lead to a June approval vote after any needed edits.
At the same meeting the board also approved canceling a previously scheduled June 23 work session and authorized staff to schedule a special board retreat in July (recommended date July 9 at Central College) to work through long-range topics. The board approved the cancellation by voice vote and will set a specific July meeting date at the June meeting.
Members of the board's facility committee reported on a parallel process to vet architects for a facilities assessment and long-range facility plan; that selection work will continue and is intended to inform the district’s strategic and facility timelines.
