Project Dreams students present "Reframing America" living art exhibit to council

Students from Project Dreams presented a living-art exhibit titled "Reframing America" to Delaware City Council on May 12, sharing perspectives on identity, belonging and the student experience.
Whitney Garmon, project representative, introduced a group of high-school students involved in the program. "These young women have been exploring since October the question of what does it mean to be an American today?" Garmon said, describing the project as a call for "empathy" and deeper community understanding.
Several students spoke to the council, offering brief personal reflections. One student described moving between cultures from Fuzhou to Queens, New York, and then to Delaware, saying those experiences "have influenced and shaped me to be more diverse" and that "America needs to be reframed to embrace these cultures and differences." Marie Nafala, another student, credited Project Dreams with providing mentoring and said she hopes diversity, equity and inclusion work continues in local schools.
Council members praised the students and thanked Project Dreams for the presentation. The students said exhibit locations and times were withheld from public announcement for safety reasons; organizers said they would share details privately. No formal city action or funding request resulted from the presentation.
