The Kenai Peninsula Borough Planning Commission on May 12 moved to forward a resolution authorizing the borough to enter a lease agreement with Skyline Towers LLC for continued use of a privately owned tower north of Homer to support Kachemak emergency communications.
A staff presenter told commissioners the borough has used annual rental agreements for antenna and storage space on the tower since February 2002 and that the current agreement expires June 30. The staff presentation said Kachemak Emergency Service Area (KISA) seeks a five‑year lease with renewal options to secure the site for emergency communications.
Staff reported the negotiated lease equates to $3,120 annually to cover space rental and utility costs. No members of the public spoke on the item. The commission took a motion to forward the resolution to the Assembly and approved it on a unanimous roll call vote.
The motion as recorded recommended the Assembly adopt a resolution authorizing the Kenai Peninsula Borough to enter into a lease with Skyline Towers LLC for continued use of the Kachemak emergency communications site. Commissioners voting yes included Slaughter, Fikes, Morgan, Venuti, Gillum, Epperheimer, Whitney, Brantley and Ken Burnley.
The Assembly will receive the commission’s recommendation and the proposed lease terms as part of the Assembly packet for final action.
