At its meeting the Richardson City Council unanimously approved a resolution canvassing and declaring the results of the May 3, 2025, city council election and authorized issuance of certificates of election to the newly elected members.
The council’s certification, moved by Councilmember Ken Hutchenrider and seconded by Councilmember Curtis Dorian, recorded a total of 12,313 ballots cast in the election. The resolution as read into the record listed vote totals for the candidates and ordered that certificates of election be issued to the successful candidates.
The city read the returns into the public record; the council chair then called for a motion to approve the canvass. After the motion and second, the council voted by show of hands and the chair announced, “That passes unanimously.” The council subsequently directed staff to issue the certificates of election to the newly elected mayor and council members as provided in the resolution.
The council publicly identified the officials to be issued certificates: Mayor-elect Amir Omar; Curtis Dorian (Place 1); Jennifer Justice (Place 2); Dan Barrios (Place 3); Joe Corcoran (Place 4); Ken Hutchenrider (Place 5); and Arifin Shamsul (Place 6). The resolution language and vote were entered into the minutes as the official canvass and declaration of the returns.
The certification concludes the formal canvass process for the May 3 election; the council’s action authorizes the city secretary to prepare and deliver the certificates of election to those named in the resolution.
