Duchesne County moves ahead on fairgrounds lighting, arena advertising and related equipment purchases

Duchesne County commissioners authorized multiple fairgrounds improvements May 12, including an indoor arena advertising program, a plan to install permanent lighting in the dirt parking lot adjacent to the fairgrounds and the purchase of a larger side-by-side vehicle to support grounds operations.
Event center staff described a lighting plan for the dirt lot that places poles in a horseshoe configuration along aisles and uses solar-powered fixtures initially, with conduit set in place for future electric service. Staff said the plan uses existing posts salvaged from other structures where feasible; permanent poles would be set in concrete. The director told the commission the project is budgeted in the fairgrounds account for this year.
On arena signage, staff proposed selling vinyl advertising spaces on the indoor arena’s west wall in fixed contractual terms. The county would reserve the central area for county messaging and fair events; advertisers wishing to keep vinyl in place during the county fair would pay an additional $1,000 per space (revenue to the fair board). Staff said sign contracts could include a ride-pass benefit for advertisers as part of a package.
Public-works staff also presented two equipment bids for a utility side-by-side vehicle used at the event center. Ag Equipment in Roosevelt submitted a quote for a larger dump-bed Kubota at $19,699.08 and had stock; another local vendor provided a close quote. Commissioners approved purchase of the Kubota side-by-side from Ag Equipment for $19,006.99 (motion recorded at the meeting). The motion to authorize the arena advertising program also passed.
Commissioners asked staff to refine sign contracts, confirm final pole counts and conduit placement, and coordinate pricing with Shane and the fairgrounds team so work can begin this season.
