The Marion City Council approved the project calendar to replace and upgrade the traffic signal cabinet and associated equipment at the busy Highway 13 and Highway 151 intersection.
Public works staff described the work as replacing an older TS-1 style cabinet with a NEMA TS-2 cabinet, adding a new controller and conflict monitor, a fiber switch, battery backup, relocating emergency vehicle preemption to the new cabinet, installing a pan-tilt-zoom camera and advanced video detection, and modifying signal heads and detection infrastructure. The improvements aim to reduce outages and eliminate the need to post stop signs when power is lost.
Staff received two bids and recommended Price Industrial as the low bidder at $140,640. The engineer’s estimate was lower; staff said funds exist in the traffic signal budget and noted a disincentive clause of $50 per minute for extended outages during work and $500 per day liquidated damages to encourage timely completion. The council approved the project calendar (resolutions 32388 and 32389).
