Cedar Park library and parks preview busy summer lineup, summer reading and expanded programs

Library Director Julia Michie and Parks and Recreation staff outlined extensive summer programming — a summer reading challenge (May 24–Aug. 9), family events, makerspace camps and 26 specialty Parks & Rec camps — and reported heavy early use of the new library and rec center.
Library and Parks & Recreation staff presented the city’s summer event slate to council and highlighted usage milestones at the new Cedar Park Public Library and recreation center.
Julia Michie, library director, said the new library welcomed more than 330,000 visitors in its first six months and hosted a successful mini-con with 1,800 attendees. Michie outlined the summer reading challenge (May 24–Aug. 9), which will require full library-card access for prize-eligible participation, and previewed family and teen events including musicians, science programs, makerspace camps and a dueling-pianos finale.
Parks and Recreation staff reported spring wins — an Earth Day cleanup that removed more than 10,000 pieces of trash, a 35% increase in rec center check-ins over two months and highly rated programs — and previewed summer attractions including a newly opened splash pad, pool season opening on Memorial Day weekend, Go Skateboarding Day, “Cedar Sparktacular” July 4 celebration, Parks and Recreation Month events in July and 26 specialty camps (nature, robotics, sports, cooking and animation).
Staff encouraged residents to consult the library and parks online calendars for registration details and said many programs will be free or require registration due to capacity. Councilmembers expressed enthusiasm for the schedules and congratulated staff on operating milestones and partnerships.
