Council approves partnership with Lunar Foundation for Asian night market at Lakeline Park

The Cedar Park City Council approved a partnership agreement with the Lunar Foundation and the Greater Austin Asian Chamber to host an Asian night market at Lakeline Park on Oct. 18.
Parks staff described the planned event — food and beverage vendors, arts and cultural programming, performances and nonprofit booths — and said the foundation will handle event coordination, permitting, portable restrooms, a dumpster, event insurance and deposits. As part of the proposed partnership, the Lunar Foundation will share 10% of total sales with the city up to a cap of $4,000 to offset city costs; the city will provide parking-lot access, limited utilities and assistance with off-site parking and police support.
Andrew Lee, co-chair of the Lunar Foundation, said the nonprofit produced a successful inaugural night market in Austin and wanted to expand to Cedar Park after seeing the city’s parks and library. “We’re very excited to explore this opportunity with you guys,” Lee said, noting the foundation’s mission to “celebrate culture, creativity, and collaboration.”
Councilmembers expressed support for the event as the kind of cultural programming Cedar Park should host. The council approved the agreement after a motion by Councilmember Kirkland and a second by Mayor Pro Tem Boyse; attendees from the Lunar Foundation and the Asian Chamber were welcomed by the council after the vote.
