Summary
The United Nations said recent air strikes in multiple Ukrainian cities caused civilian casualties and damage; aid groups and local authorities set up emergency response centers and provided assistance to evacuees.
At the noon briefing, the United Nations' spokesperson's office reported that air strikes in Ukrainian cities including Sumy, Zaporizhzhia and Kyiv resulted in civilian deaths and injuries and damaged housing and infrastructure.
"The latest attacks in the cities of Sumy, Zaporizhzhia, and Kyiv killed 6 civilians and injured nearly 30 others, including 10 children," Stephanie Tremblay said, citing local authorities and partner reporting. She added that nearly 40 additional casualties and damage to civilian infrastructure were reported in frontline regions.
Tremblay said aid organizations responded by providing emergency support, setting up response centers and deploying teams to assess needs; several local NGOs were registering impacted people for cash assistance. She said evacuees from border communities were supported at a transit center in Sumy city, where nearly 500 residents were evacuated from border areas in the last day.
The briefing characterized the response as coordinated between aid organizations and local authorities; no new international policy actions were announced at the briefing.
