The Small Water and Sewer application would carry a 15% local match, roughly $75,000, that borough staff said would come from capital budget line items already set aside for storm infrastructure.
Why it matters: The borough’s storm system needs extensive work over multiple years; staff said estimated needs are on the order of tens of millions of dollars across many priority repairs. Securing state grants is a major source of funding to advance higher-priority culvert and roadway repairs.
Staff explained that, with recent arch culvert work completed at two addresses, the next phase will address priority repairs beneath roadways and fund measures intended to prevent further deterioration. The borough will also apply to a related flood mitigation grant program for another $500,000 to support stormwater rehabilitation and some ongoing maintenance in priority roadway locations.
If awarded, both grants will require local match commitments; staff said the borough has identified capital line items to cover the 15% match for the Small Water and Sewer request. Council did not vote on the grants at the Committee of the Whole meeting but agreed to list the items for action at the next council meeting.
