Board authorizes public bidding for $3 million El Centro mental health facility rehab

The Imperial County Board of Supervisors voted May 6 to adopt plans and specifications and to authorize public bidding for rehabilitation work at the three‑story building that houses county Behavioral Health Services triage and engagement in El Centro.
Staff described the project as interior rehabilitation that will add clinician rooms, a separate youth assessment space, additional restrooms and showers, and other general upgrades to improve client care. County staff estimated the construction cost at roughly $3,000,000 when the item went out to bid.
Project manager John (county staff) told the board the work is intended to expand service capacity and modernize the facility. The board approved the resolution to go to public bid after brief questions and a motion by Supervisor Ryan Kelly that was seconded by Supervisor Jesus Escobar; the clerk recorded the action as "motion carries."
