Committee reviews plan for real‑time crime centers as public raises surveillance and immigration data concerns

The Los Angeles City Council Public Safety Committee on May 7 heard detailed presentations on plans to expand “real‑time” crime centers that aggregate video, license‑plate reader (LPR) and 911 feeds, and took public comment warning the centers could increase surveillance and facilitate data sharing with federal immigration agencies.

Supporters and opponents described the centers as either an operational tool to shorten police response times or a mechanism that concentrates intelligence and surveillance.
