The Los Angeles Police Department on Thursday urged Angelenos to be vigilant after investigators identified dozens of distraction thefts in which suspects approach people — frequently older adults — to remove jewelry and other valuables.
At a press briefing the department said investigators have recorded “in excess of 40 reports” citywide and “approximately 86” incidents in the San Fernando Valley across the seven divisions that make up the Operations Valley Bureau.
