Chris Mollendorf, Cass County Collector, updated the commission on the county’s tax-sale process during public comment on May 7, 2025, saying the county’s initial list includes 398 properties that are at least two years delinquent and are eligible for tax sale under Chapter 140.
Mollendorf said the collector’s office has asked for Pearl Street to be closed and coordinated with the Harrisonville Police Department for the tax-sale event, which the collector said is scheduled for the fourth Monday in August. He said the office will open bids for lead searches on Friday the ninth (date context: the collector indicated Friday the ninth would be the next step), and that as of the morning of the meeting only one bid had been received for lead searches from a local title company, Coffelt.
Mollendorf said the county will turn selected properties over to Coffelt (as contractor for title and beneficiary-data searches) and that Coffelt’s team plans to perform lead searches and beneficiary-data searches over Memorial Day weekend. He said the office will begin sending notices via social media and a traditional press release and that staff will publish deadlines for staying out of the newspaper and other steps property owners can take to retain their homes.
Mollendorf closed by saying he expects to return to the commission next Wednesday with further updates, that the county will try to work with property owners as in prior years, and that details will be announced publicly.
The commissioner meeting transcript records the collector’s update and public-notice plans; it does not include the exact calendar dates for the referenced “Friday the ninth” beyond the collector’s statement, nor does it provide the name of the bidder contact at Coffelt.
