Supervisor warns of earlier fire season; says testimony to Senate committee drew bipartisan support

"It's looking like by mid July in our, area in our elevation, we could likely see a pretty active fire season," Pyszka said during weekly reports. She cited a combination of a wet period followed by a very dry April and forecasts for warmer, drier-than-average conditions in the coming months.
Pyszka also reported traveling to Washington, D.C., where she said she testified before the U.S. Senate Banking Committee and received bipartisan support for mitigation needs. "Really wonderful bipartisan support for mitigation," she said of the testimony.
The supervisor named Chief Annalie Berloud, assistant director of CAL FIRE, as a presenter at the CSAC session on fire-season expectations. Pyszka listed upcoming local meetings related to fire preparedness, including facility-space and fire-safe council meetings, coordination with neighboring counties, and a tree mortality and forest health event.
Pyszka framed the remarks as a heads-up to residents and fellow supervisors to prepare for an earlier-than-usual season; she did not present new county policy or seek a board vote during the report.
