Lake County supervisors consider $1.5 million Continuum of Care funds for safe parking pilot

The supervisor said the Continuum of Care plans to conduct deeper case conferences that include all partner agencies at the table to better coordinate on people who are difficult to place. Sabatier described safe parking as “that segue between being out on the streets, building, getting into a safe area, building trust with the services in order to get some of those folks into our shelters because there are still people who are adamantly against going into our shelters, whether it's due to past experiences, stigma, or whatever the case might be.”
Sabatier listed related meetings and next steps: ongoing Continuum of Care and HUB advisory group meetings, an encampment resolution meeting scheduled for May 12, and the board meeting on May 13 where related items may return for discussion.
The board did not take a formal vote on the proposal during the remarks. Sabatier said the funds had already been collected through the COC and emphasized that this was not a request for county general fund dollars. Additional program details, including proposed site locations, operating partners, and a timeline for launching safe parking, were not specified in the remarks.
