The San Francisco Entertainment Commission approved a limited live performance permit on May 6 for After Work Bar, 409 Golf Street, allowing indoor karaoke and controlled outdoor amplified sound at the front of the business.
Staff described the application and said they set an internal outdoor sound limit and educated the operator on how to monitor sound at a distance of 50 feet from the property plane. The applicant sought outdoor amplified programming Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.; staff and the applicant described the proposed programming as limited, with karaoke and prerecorded music intended to drive foot traffic.
Monica Diaz, district manager, and general manager Samuel Mustafa said the events would be brief and focused on neighborhood patrons; they described karaoke nights of two-hour duration and said they would post contact information and monitor sound. Staff reported outreach to neighbors; one commercial neighbor initially expressed concern but after direct contact with the manager did not file opposition. Northern Station had no added recommendations.
A commissioner moved to approve the permit with staff recommendations; the motion passed unanimously with President Ben Bridal, Vice President Wong, Commissioner Davis and Commissioner Perez voting aye. The permit includes staff-set conditions for outdoor monitoring and a requirement to respond to neighbor complaints.
