Commission approves Brixton's request to extend indoor entertainment hours

The San Francisco Entertainment Commission voted May 6 to amend the Brixton's limited live performance permit to expand hours for indoor entertainment, approving the change by a unanimous vote.
Brixton's owner, Hugo Gamboa, told commissioners he took sole ownership in June 2024, remodeled the interior, and stopped entertainment until recently. The commission said the venue previously had its hours reconditioned in June 2024 to Fridays and Saturdays from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. because of permit violations; Gamboa asked to expand indoor entertainment to Tuesday through Thursday, 4 p.m. to 11 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., with no entertainment on Mondays.
Gamboa described sound attenuation work, saying he removed large speakers, installed smaller background speakers and replaced wall treatments with QuietRock and Tectum panels; he said he spent roughly $20,000 to $30,000 on reengineering the sound system. The owner said planned programming will focus on dinner- and brunch-time music, including small live ensembles and DJs for private events, and that he does not intend to operate as a nightclub. He said he will monitor sound levels regularly and post contact information so neighbors can report issues.
A neighbor, Jeff Mojonet, told the commission he lives across the street and recounted past problems under prior ownership, saying bass had penetrated nearby apartments and that he had difficulty reaching managers in the past. Mojonet asked that doors remain closed during live entertainment and urged the venue to keep bass and outdoor speakers down.
Staff reported that between June 2024 and April 2025 the commission office received 10 sound complaints about Brixton; site visits found the March 15 event in compliance and other complaints were either unverified or attributed to other sources. Northern Station had no objections. Following discussion, a commissioner moved to approve the amendment with staff recommendations; the motion passed with President Ben Bridal, Vice President Wong, Commissioner Davis and Commissioner Perez voting aye.
The owner is to follow up with commission staff on next steps and continue dialogue with neighbors.
