Tamarac planning board forwards draft Comprehensive Plan 2040 to commission after unanimous vote

The Tamarac Planning Board voted 5-0 on May 7, 2025, to forward Temporary Ordinance 2589 — the draft "Comprehensive Plan 2040" — to the City Commission for transmittal to state and regional review agencies.

The recommendation begins the statutory review process required under Chapter 163 of the Florida Statutes, the board and city staff said, and is intended to update the city's guiding land-use policies, transportation and mobility strategies, housing goals and resiliency measures for the next 15–20 years. "This updated plan represents a careful evaluation based on all changes in state law since it was last updated," said Scarlett Hammonds, a consultant with the Corradino Group, during the board presentation.

Why it matters: The comprehensive plan sets the city’s future land-use map and policy framework that guides zoning, infrastructure investments and grant eligibility. Anne Johnson, senior planner with Tamarac’s Community Development Department, said the updated plan is designed to align with Broward County policies and to position the city to compete for federal and regional grant funding. "The comprehensive plan provides the principles, guidelines, standards, and strategies for the orderly and balanced future economic, social, physical, environmental, and fiscal development of the city," Johnson said.
