Conservation and Heritage commissions outline programs and seek grants for building work and digitization

The Heritage Commission reported two grant efforts: a letter of intent for up to $10,000 (to digitize historic materials) and a separate nonmatching T-Mobile grant program that funds community projects up to $50,000. The heritage representatives said they are preparing quotes for a proposed kitchen renovation at the town building and expect to submit a shovel-ready proposal for the T‑Mobile funding if the letter of intent is accepted.
The Heritage Commission also noted a planned reroofing RFP and that they are collecting three contractor quotes for the kitchen project to meet the shovel-ready requirement should the T‑Mobile application proceed. Commissioners said they have one identified contractor for roofing and are awaiting two additional estimates.
Why it matters Both commissions coordinate volunteer conservation, public programming and historic-preservation activities that rely on grants and small-town labor. Securing nonmatching funds for building renovation or digital preservation would enable work without direct town-match obligations, but both commissions said any awarded funds must be used within the grant timelines and meet the funder’s requirements.
Next steps Heritage Commission to submit grant proposals if the letter of intent is accepted and to return with contractor quotes. Conservation Commission will host scheduled public events and pursue trail improvements; the commission asked for selectmen and public participation.
