Franklin County mental-health department outlines services, says CIT training reached 350 people

The Franklin County Mental Health Department presented an overview of its services, funding and crisis-response programs and told commissioners its staff provide oversight for more than 30 community contracts delivering behavioral-health services.
The presenter said the department's authority is derived from the Mental Health and Mental Retardation Act of 1966 and that most direct services are provided by community contractors. The department reported that since July 2024 it has assisted 76 youth through the child-adolescent service team, a figure that resulted in 206 interagency meetings through April.
Staff described the department's funding mix, noting the Human Services Block Grant supplies the largest share and that housing and residential supports account for a large portion of spending. The presenter said funding levels from the prior fiscal year to the current year have not fluctuated significantly.
Commissioners asked about supportive housing and community involvement; staff said supportive-housing programs include lease/landlord partnerships and teach tenants budgeting and tenancy skills. On crisis-intervention training, staff said the county has trained 350 members as of the last CIT graduation in April over a 12-year period; some trainees have left and staff plan to refine a contact list of currently active members.
Commissioners praised staff empathy and the county's service array. No new funding or policy changes were proposed during the presentation.
