County librarian spotlights Michael Lewis collection and local seed libraries

County Librarian Christopher Veach used agenda item 6.3 to highlight a recent book collection and local seed-library offerings, and to remind residents that Lake County’s library resources are available through a regional online catalog.

Veach said he wanted “to highlight the book, Who is Government?” and described it as “an astonishing book,” citing historian Garrett Graff’s praise that Michael Lewis “collected some of the nation's best writers” to profile federal public servants. He told meeting attendees that Who Is Government? is available “in print, audiobook, and ebook through the library system.”

Veach also promoted Lake County’s seed libraries, noting that “each library branch has a seed library where you can check out seeds, grow the plants, and then save and donate back some of the new seeds.” He said seed donations from plants that grow well locally will expand collections that reflect Lake County growing conditions.

The county’s catalog combines holdings from Lake, Sonoma and Mendocino County library systems, Veach said, and he provided the county library website for more information: library.lakecountyca.gov. He listed local service points as Lakeport, Clear Lake, Middletown, Upper Lake and the bookmobile.
