Lake County supervisors proclaim May 2025 as Elks National Youth Week

It noted that the lodge sponsors an Americanism essay contest open to fifth- through eighth-grade students, participates in the national Hoop Shoot for ages 8–13, awards scholarships to local seniors and runs a volunteer drug-awareness program. Vice Chair Rasmussen concluded the reading by saying she would “add this to our exalted ruler.”
The proclamation said last year 150 essays from the lodge reached the state level. An Elks representative corrected an earlier figure during remarks, saying the lodge is awarding $10,500 in scholarships this year to five seniors from three public high schools in Lake County and that the lodge had received a $6,000 grant to support “totes for teens,” a program providing essential items for teenagers who are homeless or in desperate situations. The proclamation text also highlighted the Elks Drug Awareness Program as “the largest all volunteer drug awareness program in the United States” and noted the lodge’s participation in the Lake County Sheriff’s Activity League.
Supervisors offered brief public thanks to the Elks for their work. The meeting record does not show a roll-call vote; the proclamation was recorded as passed and adopted and signed by Chair E.J. Crandall. Following the presentation, officials and lodge members paused for photographs.
The action places formal recognition by the county behind programs intended to support youth through scholarships, civic contests and volunteer-led prevention and outreach efforts. The proclamation establishes no new funding or county program and does not, on its face, impose regulatory requirements or change county policy.
