Policy committee recommends changes; board approves admissions revision and first reading of PSBA pregnant-parent policy

The Springfield Township School District's Policy Committee reported policy reviews and recommendations to the full board at the May 6 interim meeting.

Committee chair Ms. Hubley said the committee met April 28 and reviewed a recommended minor change to Policy 201, Admissions of Students, which the board later approved as revised. The committee also recommended adopting the Pennsylvania School Boards Association's new Policy 234 (pregnant, parenting, married students); the board approved the first reading of that PSBA-recommended policy and scheduled a second reading on May 19.

Dr. Janacone brought forward a student-proposed sustainability resolution similar to language adopted in Radnor Township School District; the committee asked Dr. Janacone to draft language that includes consideration of the district's financial position and existing infrastructure and to return that draft for late-summer consideration.

The committee also discussed AR 907, a draft administrative regulation to clarify procedures for the safe and humane transfer of custody to law enforcement when warranted. Committee members requested follow-up with district attorneys on documentation and recording of student interviews by law enforcement; Dr. Janacone said she would consult attorneys and revise the draft as appropriate.

The committee thanked student representative Brynn McGay for her service; McGay's attendance at the committee was noted as her last meeting.
