Granbury issues proclamations for Peace Officers Memorial Day and Lemonade Day; police and community groups recognized

Mayor Jim Jarrett presented proclamations at the start of Tuesday’s Granbury City Council meeting designating May 15, 2025 as Peace Officers Memorial Day and the week of May 15 as National Police Week, and proclaiming May 17, 2025 as Lemonade Day in Granbury.

In reading the Peace Officers Memorial Day proclamation, the mayor said the declaration urged citizens “to solemnly remember those officers who gave their lives or suffered injury in the line of duty and to honor the families they leave behind.” Granbury Police Department representatives were present for the proclamation and noted an upcoming local memorial service at Memorial Lane.

On Lemonade Day, the mayor read a proclamation recognizing a Chamber of Commerce program that teaches fifth-grade students entrepreneurship through running lemonade stands in partnership with Constellation and Granbury Independent School District. A representative of the sponsoring organization thanked the council and encouraged residents to support student entrepreneurs on May 17.

In other recognition, City Manager Kaufman publicly acknowledged public works and street crews for work during recent heavy rains, and announced promotions within public works and wastewater operations. During citizen comments, Richard Hais, a member of the board of the Granbury Volunteer Fire Department, thanked council for its support and announced Lieutenant David Lowery had been named district firefighter of the year for SFFMA District 16.

No council votes were required for the proclamations and recognitions.
