Council unanimously renames Lincoln Park to honor longtime educator Marion Elliott

The Manteca City Council voted unanimously May 6 to rename Lincoln Park as Marion Elliott Park in recognition of Elliott’s long service to students and the community.
Councilmembers described Elliott as a longtime educator, former principal at Lincoln School and a decades‑long civic volunteer who served on local commissions and committees. Councilmember Mike Morawitt recalled Elliott’s mentorship during public meetings, saying Elliott would lean over and tell him, “Mr. Morawitt, this is what you do,” in order to keep meetings on topic and on time.
Councilmembers praised Elliott’s community leadership and agreed the park renaming was an appropriate honor while Elliott is still able to attend celebratory events. The council directed staff to proceed with the renaming process; the motion carried 5‑0.
The resolution formalizing the name change (agenda item C‑21) passed without amendment. Councilmembers noted staff assistance in processing the request and the proponent’s engagement with elected officials prior to the vote.
