Staff recommended adoption to overrule objections, set Wednesday June 1, 2025 as the last day for voluntary abatement, and authorize staff to abate remaining nuisances and return a cost accounting to council at the July 8 meeting for recovery as assessments on property tax rolls.
One speaker, Bill Monroe, urged the council to consider tiny‑home projects as a way to reduce homeless encampments and associated refuse; staff noted most recurring nuisance parcels were vacant lots owned by LLCs or trusts and compliance rates are typically high. Council adopted the resolution by roll call vote.
The council’s action directs staff to maintain accounting of abatement costs and report back so those costs can be recovered from property owners if voluntary compliance is not achieved.
