Eastchester UFSD holds public hearing on tentative 2025–26 budget; vote set for May 20

The Eastchester Union Free School District held a public hearing on the proposed 2025–26 budget, with Superintendent Dr. Valente presenting revenue and expenditure highlights and reminding the community that the budget vote and trustee election are scheduled for May 20.
Dr. Valente, superintendent, told the board and members of the public that “the tax rate increase is below the cap,” and reviewed the district’s revenue mix and the three-part budget breakdown.
The superintendent said the district’s projected revenue for 2025–26 is approximately $110,914,498. He said the local property tax levy will supply about 75% of that total, state aid about 16%, and other sources (interest, miscellaneous revenue and county sales tax) roughly 9%. On the expenditure side, Dr. Valente said program spending — which funds classrooms, teachers and student services — is the largest share; administrative costs are about 8% of the three-part budget and capital (building maintenance, busing and ancillary costs) about 14%.
Dr. Valente cautioned that the state budget had not been finalized. “There is no actual agreement,” he said of Albany’s negotiations, and added that until the state finalizes aid numbers “we will not know exactly what Eastchester is going to get.” He said the district used conservative, reasonable estimates for foundation aid and other revenues and has contingency offsets if state aid falls short.
The superintendent emphasized schedule and legal constraints: “We don't have the luxury of changing the budget hearing date. That's a matter of law,” he said, noting the district must proceed toward the May 20 vote regardless of the state timeline.
No members of the public addressed the board during the budget hearing portion of the meeting.
The board posted the full line-item budget and related superintendent materials on the district business office and superintendent web pages, Dr. Valente said. The public can review those materials ahead of the May 20 vote.
