Atchison County commissioners approved a cash farm lease agreement with farmer Daniel Armstrong for 12.5 acres the county owns at Mead and Highway 73.
County Counselor Pat Henderson said the lease terms mirror the city of Atchison’s existing lease for nearby acreage: payment terms were discussed in the meeting and the rent is the same per‑acre amount used in the comparable city lease. Henderson explained Armstrong had not yet made the initial payment and the county had not yet signed the lease; the board authorized the chair to sign the agreement.
Commissioners confirmed Armstrong will have field access from Highway 73 and that standard planting and payment arrangements apply. The motion to authorize the chair to sign the lease passed by voice vote.
