Council extends temporary closure of Grande Vista Drive, citing public safety concerns

The Moreno Valley City Council on Tuesday voted unanimously to continue the temporary closure of Grande Vista Drive (south of Bonita Heights) after a public hearing and staff recommendation that the closure remains necessary for public safety.
Public Works Director Melissa Walker reported the closure was first authorized by the council in December 2023 (Resolution 2023-87) and that California law requires the council to hold a public hearing every 18 months to continue such a closure. "The city desires to continue the closure in the interest of public safety," Walker said in her report.
Staff and the council said the closure was prompted by loitering, illegal activity and safety incidents at that location, including a previous concern about fireworks and fires. No members of the public requested to speak on the item at the hearing. The council made the motion to extend the temporary closure and voted 5-0 to adopt the resolution extending it for another statutory period.
The council noted the closure had reduced the specific localized problems at the site and directed staff to continue to monitor conditions and report back as needed.
