Council approves PC equipment lease and adopts 2025 strategic plan; consent items carried unanimously

Murphy City Council took several formal actions at its May 6 meeting, adopting the city’s 2025 strategic plan and approving a 48‑month PC equipment lease purchase; it also approved routine consent agenda items A, B and D by a single motion.

PC equipment lease purchase The council approved a resolution authorizing the city manager to negotiate and sign a 48‑month lease-purchase agreement with Dell Financial Services to replace aging staff laptops and desktops. Staff said the existing equipment is roughly five years old and that an outright purchase would have cost approximately $135,000; the lease spreads those costs across multiple years and will also reduce the total number of devices by moving some users to single laptops with docking stations. Staff said the lease will not include in-vehicle laptops used by fire or police.

2025 Strategic Plan Council adopted a resolution approving the city’s 2025 strategic plan, a multi-year document that sets six key focus areas: engagement and collaboration; connectivity; safety; community character; sustainable operations; and transparency. City Manager Aretha Adams and staff described how departments will align annual work plans with the strategy and report progress to council annually.

Consent agenda Council approved consent agenda items A, B and D by motion and second; the items were enacted without separate discussion. Council pulled item C for discussion; that item concerned the PC equipment lease described above and was voted separately.
