City outlines summer events lineup, farmers market expansion, and Splash Days theme

City staff presented highlights for the summer events calendar at the May 6 council meeting, including expanded Monday Fundays at Neptune Park, a farmers market that will accept SNAP with an additional $5 incentive per purchase, and Splash Days with a Princess Bride theme.
The farmers market will move to the west side of Neptune Park’s sidewalk to allow more vendors; the market season runs through Labor Day. Splash Days events include concerts, a carnival, a pirate and princess fair and movie night showing The Princess Bride, a drone show following a concert, a parade on July 14, and expanded boutique vendor days (Thursday–Saturday). Staff said the cemetery opening is on track for mid-July and plot sales will begin after Splash Days.
Council members asked about fireworks safety and parade routing given nearby construction; staff said they are coordinating with fire crews and contractors and will publicize parade routing changes.
