Staff described a sequence of moves: the current CTE/CTU lab will be repurposed because of restroom access constraints, the band room will remain as a music space and also serve as a library on a split schedule, and an art room will move into a different area of the building. Because of those moves, staff requested permission to remove cabinetry from an identified art room when contractors are on site; staff said the measurement and final layout drawings would arrive this month and that implementation would not begin until at least mid‑June.
During discussion staff described operational pressures that motivated the changes: crowded hallways, students mixing in a narrow corridor during class changes, teachers sharing limited space, and staff currently using closets for offices (therapist and nurse cited). Staff said the district will reduce elective offerings and move to longer instructional blocks for core subjects next year, which they expect will reduce the number of simultaneous electives and ease space demand.
Staff asked the board to approve removal of cabinetry when the project reaches the implementation phase and to allow the design contractor to finalize drawings. No formal vote on cabinetry removal was recorded in the workshop session.
