McKinney police honored after seizure of suspected murder-linked firearm and officer’s life-saving rescue

The McKinney City Council on May 20 recognized several police officers after a January arrest that recovered a stolen Glock 19 fitted with an illegal conversion device and after an officer’s March rescue of a shooting victim.
The recognition came as part of a Police Department presentation in council chambers. Police officials said on Jan. 12, 2025, Officer Courtney Katz, Officer Michael Nagy, Officer Klaus Salvatore and Officer Maxwell Welch responded to a disturbance at an apartment complex. Officers made occupants exit the residence, observed a firearm under a backpack, conducted a protective sweep and then secured a search warrant. The subsequent search turned up a stolen Glock 19 equipped with a “Glock switch,” an illegal device that converts a semiautomatic pistol to fully automatic fire, police said. Investigators also recovered THC vape pens, about 100 grams of THC oil, and about 71 pounds of marijuana.
Police officials said the recovered Glock was run through the ATF database and returned as a possible match to a firearm connected to two murders in Dallas County. The department described the removal of the firearm from the street as consequential because of that possible link.
“I would like to recognize these officers for their hard work and the commitment to the community and the McKinney Police Department,” the Police Chief said during the presentation.
The council also recognized Officer Matthew Hall for actions on March 13, 2025, after a reported shooting at a Red Roof Inn. According to the Police Department, Hall located a victim who had been shot in the neck and, despite being exposed to possible gunfire and not knowing the shooter’s location, positioned himself to shield and carry the wounded person roughly 75 yards to nearby emergency medical personnel. The department said the victim survived, was released from the hospital the next day and that Hall’s actions likely saved the person’s life.
The Police Chief described Hall’s conduct as “exceptional bravery” and noted the call was related to an incident in which a department canine, Ozzy, was killed in the line of duty.
After telling the two incidents to council, the Police Department presented coins to the officers and posed for a photograph in council chambers.
No formal council action was taken during the recognition segment; the presentation was ceremonial and intended to honor departmental work.
