Carmel Youth Center CEO outlines program relaunch, partnerships and scholarship matches

Carmel-by-the-Sea — Keith Padgett, the new CEO of the Carmel Youth Center, updated the council on the center’s relaunch, programming and fundraising at the May 6 meeting.
Padgett said the center has reimagined classrooms and programs after organizational difficulties the prior year, and highlighted STEM, cooking, art, healthy-lifestyle and golf programs taught by Pebble Beach professionals. He said the center plans a partnership with the LPGA for a girls’ golf program and will use Links Club facilities for some instruction.
Padgett described a summer leadership program for middle- and high-school students and plans to retain the center’s theater; a donor-funded 98-inch screen will allow summer film and donor events. He said fees are kept modest and that two donors have agreed to match scholarship contributions up to $3,000, enabling more children to attend programs.
Padgett invited the public to upcoming events at the center, including a Carmel Residents Association event on May 15 and a police pancake fundraiser May 31, and said the center is hosting additional summer classes and performances.
