The report, presented by Lisa Nugent of the county Public Safety Group Executive Office, said San Diego Sheriff’s Office seizures of privately made, non‑serialized firearms — commonly called ghost guns — fell 39% from 210 in 2023 to 129 in 2024. Nugent reported that the sheriff’s office filed 368 charges related to those 129 firearms in 2024 and that voluntary countywide gun safety events in 2024 resulted in 504 firearms turned in and distribution of 76 gun safes and 49 gun locks. Vice Chair Tara Lawson Reimer noted the county’s 2021 ghost‑gun ordinance and said county data indicate the ordinance has contributed to a decline in ghost‑gun seizures and in some violence metrics.
