Pima County supervisors appoint David P. Miller as justice of the peace for Precinct 6

The Pima County Board of Supervisors on May 6 appointed David Peter Miller to fill a vacancy as Justice of the Peace for Precinct 6, following interviews with five candidates.
Supervisor Steve Allen introduced the idea that the county needed a candidate who could “hit the ground running” and suggested an attorney would be better positioned for the job because of the court’s high caseload; Supervisor Ramon Cano nominated Miller, emphasizing his background as a law clerk and juvenile prosecutor and saying Miller “brings heart” to the role.
Cano moved Miller’s nomination; Supervisor Allen seconded the motion. The board held a roll-call vote: Allen, Connell, Christie, Hines and Chair Scott voted in favor. The appointment passed unanimously.
“[Miller] brings heart, from serving as a law clerk to advocating for children and now working as a juvenile prosecutor,” Supervisor Cano said when putting forward the nomination. “He is ready to lead with a steady hand and a clear vision.”
Board follow-up: During the discussion Supervisor Hines asked whether background checks and employment verification were complete; county human resources was conducting required checks and the board noted HR would flag any concern if it arose. Miller was sworn in after the board’s vote.
