West Warwick council approves budget amendment, contracts, licenses and other measures

The West Warwick Town Council on Tuesday approved a set of routine and substantive items, including a second-reading budget amendment to move payroll funds, awards of multi-year contracts for laboratory testing and auditing services, multiple business-license approvals, an appointment to tree warden and adoption of the town's updated natural hazard mitigation plan.
The council voted to adopt an ordinance amending the fiscal-year budget to reallocate payroll reserve funds into specific salary lines to cover raises that resulted from collective bargaining. Council members read an amendment into the record that added four salary-line adjustments totaling $42,927. The council then voted on the amended ordinance at second reading and the motion passed.
Council members awarded the town's analytical laboratory services contract to Eurofins, selecting the lowest bidder from a field of three after staff checked references. The council also approved a three-year audit contract award to CLA, the lowest bidder, at a stated price of $30,000 for the multi-year engagement.
Other approved items included the consent agenda (minutes from the April 22, 2025 meeting), renewal or issuance of business licenses that include antique/secondhand dealer, junk dealer and filling-station categories, and a tax-cancellation request for $1,203.45 as submitted by the tax assessor's office.
The council confirmed the appointment of Mark Maguera as tree warden and approved the town's 2025 natural hazard mitigation plan update, which has provisional approval from FEMA pending the council's adoption.
The council also passed a resolution in support of state legislation (Senate Bill S57 and House Bill H5393) that would move maintenance responsibility for sidewalks along state highways from towns to the state department of transportation.
