Kootenai County commissioners held a public hearing on May 6 and approved changes to airport fees after staff said the airport’s tower fee needed to be charged year-round rather than as a six-month temporary fee.
Gaston Patterson, airport director, explained the previous temporary tower fee covered six months but the tower is now a full 12-month operation; charging on a 12-month basis requires a public hearing because the change exceeds the amount allowed without one. No members of the public appeared either in person or on the phone to comment during the hearing. The board ended public testimony and moved to deliberations.
Commissioners agreed with the staff rationale and the board approved the 2025 airport fee schedule as listed; they also approved Resolution 2025-36 formalizing the fee changes. Both motions carried unanimously.
Patterson told the board the airport sought to capture the revenue year-round and that the public notice and hearing were completed as required.
