Middle school construction nears finishing tasks; MSBA reimbursement close to final payment

Project staff told the Walpole School Building Committee on May 6 that the middle school construction is in final site-work phases, including hydroseeding, footings for canopy structures, walkways and fencing, and that some municipal work on curbing and road widening will begin later in the week.
Griffin, the project representative, said the work is “really down to seeding at this point,” and described subgrading for dugout canopies, fence posts already poured and scheduled concrete pours for walkways and dugout pads.
Staff said the landscaper has set fence posts and that fence fabric will be installed after concrete and paving are complete. They also said the town will begin curbing and road-widening work to create additional parking along East Street.
On finance and reimbursement, Kate reported the project has received about 94.52% of eligible MSBA reimbursements to date; MSBA will review the final submission and hold the remaining payment until the closeout process is complete.
Why it matters: These remaining site tasks affect the schedule for opening and final site amenities (bleachers, canopies and safety netting). MSBA's withholding of final reimbursement until closeout is a standard closeout control that affects final project accounting.
Next steps: Staff said they expect concrete pads and site furnishings to appear over the next two to three weeks as paving and concrete work completes and that MSBA will process the final reimbursement after project closeout documentation.
