A resident asked the council about resurfacing the Macos Park tennis courts during the public-comment portion of the meeting. City staff responded that the city has $25,000 budgeted from local option sales tax that will cover approximately half the cost and that the intent is to resurface three of six courts now and seek funds (including school or booster-club contributions) to finish the remaining courts in the next fiscal year.
A city official said the 2020 agreement with the school does not obligate the school to pay half of the maintenance, and the staff will begin with three courts and coordinate with the superintendent and booster club on the remainder. The official said work would likely start in July depending on contractor schedules.
Parks staff also reported Arbor Day activity: a bur oak was planted in Linwood Cemetery. Park Director Mike provided an update on pool repairs: the new pool heater installation was expected to begin in about two weeks and roof repairs at the pool were scheduled to start shortly thereafter; staff said the timeline should allow the pool to open on schedule.
Why it matters: Resurfacing and pool repairs affect recreational access, user safety and fiscal planning for city facilities. The resurfacing plan uses local-option sales tax funds earmarked for human services and community purposes, and the city is coordinating with the school and community groups for additional funding.
No formal council vote on the tennis-court timing was recorded; updates came during public comment and departmental reports.
