Miami International Airport (MIA) has climbed to fourth place among U.S. —mega' airports in the JD Power 2025 interim rankings, a consultant told the Miami-Dade County Commission in a presentation Tuesday.
Mike Taylor of JD Power presented interim results showing MIA's steady rise over recent quarters. Taylor told commissioners that the airport was "statistically significantly" above the average for several categories and was the most-improved U.S. airport in the quarter. He noted two major factors that typically depress passenger satisfaction are construction and high passenger volume; Miami is currently managing both but nonetheless improved its ratings.
Ralph Cutie9 (appearing as the airport director in the meeting record) and Mayor Daniella Levine Cava joined the presentation and credited airport leadership and operations staff for the improvement. Taylor highlighted the airport's strength in food, beverage and retail, and said the biggest remaining improvement opportunity was passenger access and on-time arrival to the terminal. He also called out restrooms and terminal facility stress as drivers of passenger dissatisfaction and noted the airport's ongoing restroom renovation plans.
Why it matters: Higher JD Power rankings can support MIA's efforts to attract more carriers and justify continued investment in passenger-facing facilities. The presentation emphasized the economic case for improving airport access and reliability to leverage MIA's retail and hospitality strengths.
Follow-up: Commissioners asked administrative staff and airport leadership to continue reporting on operational improvements and on implementation of targeted projects such as bathroom renovations and access initiatives.
