Ada County EMS projects call volume jump to 40,000; budget plan proposes added resources for FY 2026

Ada County Emergency Medical Services staff told the board on May 6 that call volume has risen sharply since 2019 and that budget requests for fiscal year 2026 will include additional resources to address the increase.
The EMS update said annual call volume in 2019 was just under 30,000; the department now projects about 40,000 calls for the current year while operating with roughly the same staffing levels as 2019. EMS leadership said the county has not added three statutory resources since 2019 and that planned FY 2026 budget requests would seek to add personnel or other resources to respond to higher demand. Much of the increased call volume was attributed to population growth since the pandemic, the EMS representative said.
Commissioners received the update and had no substantive questions beyond acknowledging the report; EMS staff said additional details would be part of the FY 2026 budget process.
