Denton County Commissioners Court on Tuesday adopted a proclamation designating May 2025 as All Rise National Treatment Court Month in Denton County, recognizing the county's specialized treatment courts and their role in combining accountability with evidence-based treatment.
Judge Deborah Jones, judge of the 467th District Court and a speaker at the meeting, said Denton County operates multiple specialty courts including family drug court, felony drug treatment court, veterans treatment court and mental health treatment court. "Family Drug Court is about second chances," Jones said, noting the program's focus on reuniting families and reducing foster care placements.
The proclamation cites national figures from All Rise asserting treatment courts have referred more than 150,000 people to treatment services and noting average savings per person served. The court moved and seconded the proclamation (motion by the chair; second by Commissioner Falconer) and approved it unanimously.
The proclamation is an acknowledgment of the county's treatment-court programs and encourages continued multi-agency collaboration. It does not, in itself, change court procedures or funding.
Officials and the court praised the programs for reducing recidivism, improving employment and housing outcomes, and promoting family reunification.
