Ellis County approves $7,730 special alcohol fund payment to Historical Society

County Administrator Darren Myers explained that state statute requires counties of Ellis County's size to split received alcohol funds into three categories: one-third to the general fund, one-third to special alcohol programs (distributed according to recommendations from the county's care council), and one-third typically to parks and recreation. Because the county does not own parks or recreation facilities, the county has traditionally provided that third to the Historical Society.
Myers said the payment is budgeted in a separate fund and that the recommended 2025 amount is $7,730. Commissioners moved and seconded the payment; the motion passed unanimously, 3-0. A commissioner commented that the funds are well used and singled out Amanda Rupp for her work with the historical site and tourism attraction.
The county administrator will proceed with the fund disbursement to the Historical Society as approved.
